I would like to export the Italian exonyms “Maurizio” and “Seicelle” into the English language because Mauritius and Seychelles are African countries that go a lot of Italian tourists during their holidays and honeymoons.
In English there are some exonyms for non-Italian places that come from Italian like the European country “Monaco” and his town “Monte Carlo”, “Vienna” for the capital of Austria, “Cairo” for the capital of Egypt, etc.
The capital of Mauritius is Port Louis, while the capital of Seychelles is Victoria. The official languages of Mauritius are English, French and Mauritian Creole, while the official languages of Seychelles are English, French and Seychellois Creole.
The Italian exonyms of Mauritius and Seychelles “Maurizio” and “Seicelle” are used in texts of atlases published by Italian editors De Agostini and Zanichelli until the 2010s.
If the English toponym scholars can accept the Italian exonyms “Maurizio” and “Seicelle” in all the English atlases they will become endonyms, if the Italian language can be an official language in Mauritius and Seychelles together with English, French, Mauritian Creole and Seychellois Creole.
For me it is very difficult to understand the criteria necessary for toponyms to be incorporated into the English language, so if anybody has any information on how this is possible I would be very grateful.
